La Plaza Cultural

Once a trash-filled corner lot, this area was reclaimed by local activists in 1976 and turned into a community outlet for theatre and cultural displays. It is used to host a variety of events and is beacon of community among the anonymous disconnect of Manhattan life.

Many locals help to maintain the community gardens and the structures that have been created for performances, as well as the paintings and murals that cover the walls.
